  ”hey, jessica,” i said feet away. ”thanks for
  remembering.” she handed me my jacket without speaking.
  ”g, jessica,” edolitely. it wasn't really his fault
  that his voice was so irresistible. or what his eyes able of.
  ”er… hi.” she shifted her wide eyes tather her jumbled
  thoughts. ”i guess i'll see y.” she gave me a meaningful look,
  and i suppressed a sigh. what oh was i going to tell her?
  ”yeah, i'll see you then.”
  she ausio peek back over her shoulder at us.
  ”what are you going to tell her?” edward murmured.
  ”hey, i thought you 't read my mind!” i hissed.
  ”i 't,” he said, startled. theanding brightened his eyes.
  ”however, i read hers — she'll be waiting to ambush you in class.”
  i groaned as i pulled off his jad ha it
  with my own. he folded it over his arm.
  ”soing to tell her?”
  ”a little help?” i pleaded. ”what does she want to know?”
  he shook his head, grinhat's not fair.”
  ”no, you n what you know — now that's not fair.”
  he deliberated for a moment as e stopped outside the door to
  my first class.
  ”she wants to know if we're secretly dating. ao know how
  you feel about me,” he finally said.
  ”yikes. what should i say?” i tried to keep my expression very i.

  ”and as for her other question… well, i'll be listehe
  a one myself.” one side of his mouth pulled up into my
  favorite uneven smile. i 't catch my breath sooo respond
  to that remark. he turned and walked away.
  ”i'll see you at lunch,” he called over his shoulder. three people
  walkiopped to stare at me.
  i hurried into class, flushed and irritated. he was such a ow i
  was even more worried about what i was going to say to jessica. i sat in
  my usual seat, slamming my bag down in aggravation.
  ”m, bella,” mike said from the seat o me. i looked up to see
  an odd, almned look on his face. ”heles?”
  ”it was…” there was o sum it up. ”great,” i finished
  lamely. ”jessica got a really cute dress.”
  ”did she say anything about monday night?” he asked, his eyes
  brightening. i smiled at the turn the versation had taken.
  ”she said she had a really good time,” i assured him.
  ”she did?” he said eagerly.
  ”most definitely.”
  mr. masohe class to order then, asking us to turn in our
